Get Better Gas Mileage with These Vehicle Maintenance Tips

Both daily driving and long road trips can add up in costs when you think about wear on your vehicle and fuel payments. Some regular vehicle monitoring and maintenance will help you get better gas mileage so you can stay on the road longer.

Monitor your tire pressure

If you don’t have a tire pressure gauge in your glovebox, get one now. You should be checking your tire pressure monthly, or more if you drive more than the average person. Look at the sticker inside your driver’s side door on the frame to see what the manufacturer-recommended PSI (pounds per square inch) is for your tires. If you can’t find the sticker, check out your owner’s manual. Gas stations provide air pumps for you, making it easy for you to keep your tires inflated to the proper PSI. This will keep your car driving smoothly and you'll have better gas mileage.

Replace tires when needed

When you bring your car in for tire services, we’ll check out your tires and let you know how much life they have left. We’ll look at depth of tread, which helps you grip the road, as well as shape and rubber quality. Well-maintained tires can go a long way in keeping your vehicle’s fuel efficiency up.

Replace air filter regularly

If your car has to suck air in through a dirty air filter, that gives it extra work to do. This can increase its drag and reducing your gas mileage. Consult your owner’s manual to see how often is recommended for your make or model. Also, when you bring your car in for an oil change, the techs will examine your air filter. They'll make recommendations about when you should change it to get better gas mileage.

Standard vehicle service for better gas mileage

In addition to these basics, make sure you’re staying on top of regular vehicle maintenance. Get your oil changed as recommended by the manufacturer. Have other routine servicing done by trained professionals. Our Central Ave. location in Billings can provide you with preventative care, routine maintenance, and repairs. We'll keep your car running smoothly and your gas mileage optimal.
